The Formula One of gliding arrives to Engadin

 

 

 

August 4, 2010 Samedan – From 21 to 28 August, 2010, Engadin St. Moritz is once again the focus of a unique and international sporting event. Of a ten-stage international gliding Grand Prix, for the first time a stage takes place in Switzerland.

 

 

 

Eighteen participants from six nations will fly from the highest airport in Europe in their silent racing machines, looking for the win. In eight days, the best glider pilots in the world will attempt to be the fastest to cover the spectacular race tracks of the Engadin mountains.

 

 

 

The audience will have an opportunity to witness the breathtaking flight sporting event from up close. Either directly on the airfield or from several turning points such as the exposed Diavolezza or Corviglia, where gliders will race head-to-head, leaving the audience in amazement. The aircraft will be tracked live on large screens, minute by minute, by a special tracking system. A sports commentator will be virtually present at all spectator locations, and will provide a great deal of exciting information about the sport, the pilots, and the region.

 

 

 

The spectacle will be accompanied over the week with a varied program at the Engadin Airport. During eight days the Engadin Airport will become the center of attention in the region. Families, vacationers, and in particular flying enthusiasts will be pleased. Children’s attractions, live bands, food, airplane exhibitions, and even the chance to take gliding passenger flights will leave little to be desired.

 

 

 

This high-profile event is being organized by the Gliding Centre Samedan. “Soaring has, through its silence, cleanliness, and very sporty appearance, a large and wide acceptance both in the population and in our visitors. Gliding is one of the highlights of our summer season. The sport and in particular the International Gliding Grand Prix will surely be a memorable experience for many,” says Arturo Woehler of Gliding Centre Samedan.

Suis passé juste au-dessus d'eux dimanche: bien jolie météo avec pas loin de 4500m de plafond sous cumulus et des bonnes grosses pompes à 4 mètres, mais il parait que c'est les conditions "standard" :blush: en Haute Engadine :wacko: !!!
